More About Coach Rob
How did I become a coach? I started off as an athlete first, a bodybuilder to be exact. I learned through trial, error and the constant accumulation of knowledge how to manipulate diet, exercise, form and training load. I succeeded in reaching my personal fitness goal. I gained not only 50lbs of muscle in 5 years of steady training; I found that I also gained a new sense of self esteem and confidence. My success gave me credibility as a fitness trainer. I started designing training programs, training clients and offering consultations to all persons interested at no cost. Coaching for free allowed me to train more people and therefore to better understand how to make my nutrition and training methodologies as effective as possible taking into account the special needs of each client.
11 years later I was diagnosed with congenital heart disease. The discovery of my condition was made shortly after a cutting edge treatment was created to treat my condition which saved me from a lifetime of heart meds and lifestyle modification.
Surviving heart surgery made me reevaluate my personal fitness goals and knowledge base. I was then committed to learning all I could as a coach to train the aerobic system, thereby increasing cardiac health. I had always done cardio work but more with an emphasis on revving up the metabolism for fat loss and muscular definition. I went from riding a bike recreationally to riding competitively in road races, short fast events, long races, races in the rain, races in 100+ degree weather and rides over 100 miles in length. I also went to school to become a Paramedic for the prestigious Los Angeles County Fire Department. I had become a coach versed in not only fitness improvement but, also thanks to my paramedic licensure, an authority on the medical aspects of cardiac health. I was seeing the benefits of fitness and lack thereof in the field and using my expertise to intervene when appropriate. My position as a firefighter paramedic fueled me to learn more.
I continued on my knowledge quest and achieved an Expert level coaching certification from USA Cycling, the national governing body of cycling athletics. I am one of approximately 500 Expert coaches in the US and I have plans to improve on this certification still! I mentored under the guidance of two very experienced cycling coaches who collectively had over 50 years of experience combined. I again put this knowledge into practice helping clients to achieve they’re fitness goals.
My continuing passion for health and fitness improvement lead me to become an ACE certified Peer Fitness Trainer for the Los Angeles County Fire Dept. Becoming a trainer for the Fire department was a natural merger of my passion for fitness and the love of my job as a firefighter. I was Once again helping others who just happened to be fellow firefighters that were interested in fitness but, who like my clients were unclear on how to achieve their health and fitness goals.
In summary I am passionate about fitness. I am still enthused after almost 15 years of coaching to see my clients succeed and achieve new levels of self esteem and confidence. My love of giving others the gift of health has continually motivated me to be the best coach I can be by always increasing my knowledge through research and certification. I am a knowledgable, personable and sincere coach and I look forward to working with you in achieving your personal fitness goals.
Yours in Training,
Coach Rob Teixeira
